vanilla caramel drip cake

One year ago today, my friend Sara and I moved into a little cottage in Costa Mesa. We didn't know anyone in the area, but we loved the house so much we decided to take it anyway. But now, here we are, one year later...and we still don't know anyone in the area. That's has been one whole year, and we have not made one new friend.

I know that seems sort of ridiculous...but making friends as an adult is hard work. If you can't meet friends at work (which is pretty difficult to do when you are self-employed and working from home) how are you supposed to meet people?

It's not like we haven't tried. I attempted to be really really nice to the girl who works at the party store I frequent, and Sara tried chatting up some girls she ran into at the salad joint down the street.

We even tried to play in a recreational sports league in the area...but they wouldn't allow us to join unless we had an entire team. Aka we needed friends in order to play. Even with all this effort, Sara and I are spending most of our weekend nights with our parents or our dogs.

Despite this little problem, we resigned the lease for another year. After all...we do have each other (and our dogs) - and who knows, maybe we will have better luck this year. If not, I may have to start bribing people to be our friend with baked goods.

For example, this cake. I think if I stood outside my house, and offered people a slice of this Vanilla Vanilla Cake topped with a Homemade Caramel Sauce, they would have a pretty hard time saying no...right? Maybe that's just wishful thinking...or maybe its just a little creepy. Either way, it beats trying to make friends at the gym.

And on the (high) chance you came to this post to get a recipe, instead of just a look into how pathetic my life is...I used this Vanilla Vanilla Cake Recipe and halved the frosting. Then I added the Caramel Sauce from this Recipe and topped it off with a giant flower. Happy Friday!

I might be the only person in the history of the world that has ever been grounded from baking. That's right. When I was a teen, it wasn't the computer, or the phone or the tv that got taken away. For me, it was the unsalted butter.
