Potato Doughnuts in Maine + Doughnut Shirts

Maine Doughnuts

Last week the National Doughnt Tour got a little crazy. Lauren and I drove for SEVEN hours to get from New York City to Portland, Maine...for doughnuts. In retrospect, it probably wasn't the best plan of action, but in the end it was worth it. I'm not going to lie to you though, when we got to hour four I was seriously reconsidering our endeavor. I am not someone who can sit still for very long without being unconscious. If I am sleeping - it is fine. I can do the six hour plane ride from CA to NYC in my sleep...because I am literally sleeping. I have the gift of being able to sleep almost anywhere. I know some people don't think this a particularly impressive skill - but I often put it at the top of my list when I talk about my best qualities. And the car is no different...I can sleep there too. Even though Lauren told me it was ok if I went to sleep, I just didn't feel right about it. So, I stayed awake for the entire seven hours. It was rough. But we made it.

Once we arrived in Portland, we got right to business. Holy Donuts differentiates itself from the competition by using a "magic" ingredient. They put potatoes in their doughnuts. Something about the addition of this extra starch makes the doughnuts chewy and tender in all the right ways. They are delicious. Check out our recommendations and all the pictures over at the official National Doughnut Tour website

And while you are at it...you should check out or store over at skreened. We made these doughnut shirts because we thought everyone should know the only way to live life is "Doughnuts Over Everything".
