happy 1st birthday sprinkles for breakfast!

One year ago I started this blog as a final project for my photography class. The assignment was to do something that expresses a part of who you are, and obviously I love baking. My roommate convinced me I should continue the blog after the assignment was complete, and it just kind of kept growing.

So, in honor of this one year anniversary, here is a tutorial on how to make a beautiful gold painted cake. This technique can turn a simple cake into something truly beautiful, and the best part is...it is super easy!

For this cake, I used my favorite Birthday Cake recipe with Vanilla Butter Cream filling and a fondant outer layer. I generally try to stick with buttercream when decorating my cakes, but when painting, you have to use fondant. Fondant is naturally white, but if you think white is boring you can get some colored fondant here. Once you are happy with the color, cover the cake with fondant. Here is a video to show you how

After you have a covered cake, you can begin the tutorial.

Have fun!

and that's it! Super simple. And then if you want to top it off with a golden animal candle (which you definitely should), find out how to do it here.

I might be the only person in the history of the world that has ever been grounded from baking. That's right. When I was a teen, it wasn't the computer, or the phone or the tv that got taken away. For me, it was the unsalted butter.
