jack-o-lantern cake

This cake was based off one of my favorite October actives - Pumpkin Carving! Nothing quite says Halloween like a good old fashioned Jack - O - Lantern.

Growing up, I always loved going to the Pumpkin Patch. I would pick out the biggest pumpkin I could find, and then proceeded to bring it home and make a large mess on my kitchen table.

I wasn't really the neatest pumpkin carver. But I guess this is not very surprising considering I am not the neatest baker either. Some things never change.

In the past I have tried to get a little fancy with my Jack - O - Lanterns - one year was a spooky ghost and another was a witch flying on a broom (which turned out terribly).

But for this cake, I just decided to keep it classic - a simple smiling, gapped tooth Jack-O-Lantern.

Lindsay Nathanson - Baker and Author

I might be the only person in the history of the world that has ever been grounded from baking. That's right. When I was a teen, it wasn't the computer, or the phone or the tv that got taken away. For me, it was the unsalted butter.
