10 Best Recipes of the Decade

The best Sprinkles for Breakfast’s recipes in the last decade!

As this decade comes to a close, I have done a lot of reflecting – and in that reflecting. I have come to the conclusion that I am VERY ready for this decade to be over. For me, the last 10 years came with a lot of challenges. I experienced heartache and loss and loneliness. My self-esteem was completely dictated by insecurities as I attempted to figure out who I was and what I wanted to do in this world. I sat front row as cancer drained the life from my mom and eventually took her away from me. I endured what felt like unbearable amounts of grief and depression and anxiety. And at one point, I thought it was going to be the end of me. I was stuck in such a dark place for so long that I started to believe that I had nothing left inside of me. That even if I was able to find a way out, all the parts that made me “me” would be gone – and I almost lost hope completely. That is pretty bleak…I know. But just stick with me for a minute.

While I am so happy to put this decade behind me, I am also so happy to have lived through it. Because even though there was a lot of bad stuff in the last 10 years, it wasn’t all horrible. I mean, it was in the last decade that this little blog was created.

In 2012, I started Sprinkles for Breakfast as a final for a photography class. A project where I was supposed to present something that represented who I was. That was all. And now, as this decade comes to an end, this blog is by far the thing I am most proud of. Since its creation, I have written almost 400 blog posts, taken thousands of photos as I honed my skills as a food photographer and started teaching others how they too can do what I do. In the last year alone, I have taught close to 10,000 people how they can better their food photography skills in my free webinar “How To Take Food Photos Like a Boss” (you can sign up here if you want to catch the next one) and then had many of these students go on to take my full 4 Week course Beyond Baking Bootcamp. But most importantly, I get to do what I love every single day.

Now writing it out like this makes it sound like doing all that was very easy. It wasn’t. I did a lot of things wrong and came up short more times than you could imagine. I mean, have you seen some of my early photos?! They are truly cringeworthy. And my first webinar had fewer than 40 people in it compared to the 2,000 that showed up to my last one. I cried a LOT after that first webinar because it was such a massive failure. But that is why I am so proud of Sprinkles for Breakfast. Because no matter how hard it got and no matter how many people told me I needed to go “get a real job”, I kept going.

Also, I think it is important to note that I didn’t get here by myself. My last decade was filled with amazing friends and family who supported me when I was down. With wonderful teachers, mentors, clients and therapists who helped me get to where I am today. Without these people, none of this would have been possible and I am eternally grateful to them.

Now I know I said at the beginning of this post I was ready to say goodbye to this last decade. But as I sit here and write this, I am realizing that that is sort of impossible. It was nice in theory, but it looks like the good and the bad of the last 10 years are coming with me whether I like it or not. They have set the foundation for this new decade to come and I can honestly say that I am so excited to see where it takes me.
Ok, now I will stop talking about my feelings, and actually share with you the top 10 most popular recipes of the last decade. Because, let’s be honest, that’s probably why you clicked on this post in the first place.
